Color Mania #9: Blue Lagoon & Blue Curacao Jelly

Blue Curacao1

BLUE - it ended up being a mind boggling color when it comes to food. There is hardly any choice to make. But then here is my blue now :)

Blue Curacao syrup is the key ingredient that I used to bring the vibrant color to celebrate the blue of life ;)

Thanks a million to my friends, Parita and Pari for suggesting me blue curacao. It was a brilliant idea and I enjoyed it so much. Parita gave me the blue lagoon recipe as well. A special thanks to you dear :)

Blue curacao is a combinational citric syrup which contains sweet lime and orange together with synthetic color and additional flavoring too. Its not totally natural, but then its okay when it comes to making mocktails that we rarely relish. :)

  • In India, paintings of the god Krishna often depict him as having blue skin.
  • In the United States, post office mailboxes are typically blue.
  • In Mexico, blue is the color of mourning.
  • Powder blue is often used in products to promote cleanliness and purity.
  • Owls are the only birds that can see the color blue.
  • The 1993 film "Blue" consists entirely of the color blue with narration and soundbytes.
  • Mosquito's are attracted to the color blue twice as much as to any other color.
Aqua blue is my favorite color and I used to go to college by my blue scooty, with a blue bag and a blue helmet too :) A friend of mine used to tease me saying that she would easily identify me even from google earth ;)

Blue Curacao

Ingredients:

Blue curacao syrup
Vanilla Ice cream
Plain soda

Blue Curacao2

Method:

Fill in 1/4 of your serving glass with curacao syrup. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to it. Finally fizz the soda on top of it and mix it just once and quickly serve it :)

The blue color is damn attractive and vanilla goes awesome with curacao. :)

Enjoy the yummy blue lagoon :) Happy making :)

Blue Curacao5

Blue Curacao Jelly and Crush

I was badly wanting to make something interesting with blue curacao syrup. So came up with the jelly idea which I can use to make a blue dessert :)

Blue Curacao4

Method:

Get a pack of plain jelly crystals or china grass crystals or gelatin. Proceed making jelly according to the instructions behind. Include the curacao syrup along with water and measure according to the pack instructions.

Adjust the water measurement according to the consistency of jelly that you want. I used more china grass crystals to make thick and firm jellys and used less crystals to make the crush consistency of jelly :)

Play with it as you like to make different dessert toppings :)

Top the jellys with ice cream of your choice and enjoy the bluey dessert :)

Color Mania #8: Tropical Avocado Cream

Tropical Avacado Cream1

Avocado, also know as butter fruit or alligator pear is a very interesting and versatile tropical fruit.

It has a very different and subtle taste. Not so sweet and not so sour. This makes it perfect for a dessert and equally perfect for a salad too.

I really wanted to get out of greens and vegetables when I decided to celebrate the green of life. Bling!!! Avocado was the best choice and here goes my easy breezy tropical avocado cream dessert, just for you all :)

  • Green was the favorite color of George Washington, the first President of the United States.
  • Green is the color used for night-vision goggles because the human eye is most sensitive to and able to discern the most shades of that color.
  • Bright green is the color of the astrological sign "Cancer."
  • Green ribbons have been used by a range of environmental groups to symbolize organ donation and transplant, awareness of Bipolar Disorder, solidarity with Chechnya, and support of farmers in America.

This soup especially tastes great both as a hot soup as well as a cold soup

The white creamy look by itself is damn tempting isn't it? :)

Salads are healthy, yummy and interesting always. There are loads of ways you can make a salad. I love them salty, spicy and sweet as well. :)

Here are two versions of making a perfectly orange looking salad. :) Enjoy the orange of life ;)

Color Mania #5: Hibiscus Squash

Hibuscus Squash1

Hibiscus squash!!!!! yes, making a flower squash was a very impressive idea which my sis suggested. I was equally thrilled about it too :)

Hibiscus is also called as sorrel, rosemallow, flor de Jamaica and Sembaruthi in Tamil. Its a very beautiful flower and it blooms in various colors like red, pink, white, yellow and so on. Wikipedia says there are around 200 species of these flowers.

I have used the regular red hibiscus flower to make this reddy red squash.

Its simply a yummy, vibrant and attractive drink to welcome your guest. :)

Note: Sharp eyesight should definitely catch the second glass seen at the stem of my goblet ;)

Color Mania #5: Red

Did you know?
  • Red represents beauty in many languages and cultures, including Russia.
  • In India, a red mark on the forehead is said to bring good luck.
  • Islamic, Hindu, and Chinese brides traditionally wear red.
  • In England, red phone booths and red double decker buses are national icons. Standard British pillar boxes (mail boxes) have been painted red since 1874.
  • Chinese New Year is celebrated by wearing red clothing and decorating the house with red. Red envelopes with "luck money" are given to unmarried children to bring good fortune to them for the rest of the year.
  • The longest wavelength of light is red.
  • Red is the highest arc of the rainbow.
  • Bees can't see the color red, but they can see all other bright colors. Red flowers are usually pollinated by birds, butterflies, bats, and wind, rather than bees.
I have a favorite red t.shirt that I love to wear. I don't care if the bulls get attracted ;)

Hibuscus Squash2

Ingredients:

Hibiscus flowers - 20
Water - 1/2 liter
Sugar - 2 cups
Lemon - 1

Hibuscus Squash
Method:

Collect hibiscus(Sembaruthi) flowers and take the petals alone. Wash them cleanly and soak them in 1/2 liter of hot water overnight.

Strain them and remove the petals from the water. Now the water would have turned red. Take the water in a pan and add sugar to it. Boil until the sugar dissolves and bubbles well. Remove from flame and add juice of one lemon and mix well.

The squash would be really red enough. So you dont need to add any extra food color to it.

Hibiscus squash is ready to use. :)

Add 1/3 glass of squash and mix in plain soda or water to it and serve chill :)

You can store the hibiscus squash in refrigerator for 6 months.

Happy making :) Enjoy drinking :)

Hibuscus Squash3
Method 2:

Soak the flower petals in lemon juice of two lemons over night. Remove the petals and pour in one liter of water to it and boil until it becomes nearly half the quantity.

Pour in 1/3 glass of syrup and mix soda or water to it. Add sugar or honey to get the desired sweetness.

Serve chill :)

Color Mania #4: Chocolatey Mochaccino

Chocolatey Mochaccino2
For most of you, choosing between a cup of hot chocolate and a cup of hot coffee could be really hard.

If thats so, the best choice is to go for both at the same time. :) A mock tail may be. Chocolatey Mochaccino as Hershey's says ;)

I have had chocolate flavored tea years back at Munnar. But then chocolate coffee was pretty new to me and it was absolutely yummy :)

Chocolatey Mochaccino
Color Mania #4: Brown

Did you know?
  • Brown is a color, denoting a range of composite colors produced by a mixture of orange, red, rose, or yellow with black or gray.
  • Brown represents wholesomeness and earthiness.
  • The Dravidian Caucasoids and Indo-Aryan people of South Asia are sometimes called brown.
  • The Japanese do not have a specific word for brown. Rather, they use more descriptive names such as “tea-color," "fox-color," and "fallen-leaf.”
  • In the United States, Thanksgiving is represented by brown and orange.
  • If you dream of the color brown, it means you will be lucky with money.
The first thing that comes to my mind about brown is chocolates. I just love them so much. I can even live on it. :) But my dentist hates this wish of mine :(

Chocolatey Mochaccino1
Ingredients:

Hot milk - 1 cup
Instant coffee powder - 3 tsp
Chocolate syrup - 2 tblsp
Sugar - for taste (If your chocolate syrup is unsweetened and if you have a sweet tooth)
Whipped Cream - optional

Chocolatey Mochaccino5
Method:

Stir in hot milk, instant coffee powder and sugar in a pan. Switch off the flame and add the chocolate syrup to it and mix well. Top it with whipped cream and serve hot. :)

The instant coffee powder used matters a lot. I used Melosa 3 in 1 instant cappuccino powder to make my cup of delicious coffee. :) Since Melosa has added sugar and creamer in it, my chocolaty coffee was thick and creamy :)

Chocolatey Mochaccino5

Note:
You can serve it cold too. Its yummy both ways.

You can also add steamed milk foam or whipped cream as a topping. :)

If you don't have chocolate syrup, either double boil a small bar of chocolate or mix in two tsp of cocoa powder with 3 tsp of water and boil it along with some sugar and add it to the coffee.
